'ONE SHOULD EITHER BE A WORK OF ART, OR WEAR A WORK OF ART'

Friday 23 January 2015

IT'S BEEN A WHOLE YEAR! I can't even remember the reason I started my blog, it almost definitely had a lot to do with encouragement from Nathaniel and my house mates, Edel, Hayley and Alicia. I want to thank all four of you for telling me to do this and constantly putting up with 'Do you want to take some photos?'. On the note of thank you's, thank you to everyone who has ever read anything particularly those on Facebook. It was a really big deal for me to share this with people that I know and you have no idea how much I appreciate every 'like', share, comment, especially the ones said in person. I am so ridiculously proud of this, it has given me confidence and inspiration and I want to tell everyone I meet that this is what I do. I finally have a hobby and something I enjoy and am actually good at. Jasminlousiey has grown so much in a year and I love to see that ticker go up. Here's to an even bigger and better 2015.... I love you all

This was my first 'proper' day back at uni since Christmas, hence the lack of outfit posts because I've hardly been getting dressed let alone planning something worth posting. I've been looking for the best way to style this leather waistcoat since I got it (forever ago) and I think layering is it; it just doesn't look right without anything on top. Also, to comment on the duster coat, I actually hate them and I have no idea what made me buy it other than the £25 price tag (more than half price!!). Sorry, ASOS, I love you but £60 is just too much to look like a doctor or undertaker. HOWEVER, to my surprise, I haven't been able to take this one off, I just goes with everything and looks so put together. Anyway, here are the photos... Enjoy... x

I finally jumped on the NARS band wagon! I opted for the matte foundation rather than the glow one in the hope that by the end of the day I wouldn't have that shiny, oily look. And it worked! My foundation stayed put all day and didn't look like I'd been wearing it all day by the end of it. I don't think it compares to my MAC Studio Fix Fluid but then I don't think anything will. I also bought a shade that was too yellow but foundation never come in my shade (I always have to mix it with something). One thing that really stresses me out with 'high end' foundation is that you have to buy the pump separately AND it's never made clear that you do. The fact that Estee Lauder don't even sell a pump is ridiculous. I get MAC pumps on Ebay for a reasonable price and trim the end off the fit. It's a pain in the ass and I'll never understand why a pump can't be sold with the bottle but, Ebay always has a quick fix.

On Saturday, we visited in the Sea Life Sanctuary in Gweek. I haven't been there since I was young and Nathaniel has never been. The sanctuary aims to save seals and release them back into the wild.
I'm not big on zoos because the idea of keeping an animal captive for the entertainment of people, completely baffles me but, they're doing a really good thing here. That's not to mention how totally adorable it is. They also house sea lions, penguins and 2 resident otters (which were my favourites). In terms of clothes, I went pretty laid back. I've also fallen in love with V-neck t-shirts (my younger self would be ashamed). The trench coat still makes it look put together even though it was pretty effortless...

My 2015 was welcomed in with my family for the first time. We had a barbecue, drank tequila and did the cha-cha slide. Oman is a majority Islamic country so it is frowned upon so show your shoulders and knees in public. We stayed at home so I made the most being able to wear a short summer dress wore is kaftan to protect myself from mosquitoes and the cooler evening. Finally, how beautiful is this view at sunset?!

Family is super important to me and I really cannot think of a better way to welcome in the new year than cha-cha sliding with the best and most important people in your life on the 31st of December. This week was well and truly full of firsts. It was the first time in Oman for my mum, dad, brother and Nathaniel; my first holiday with my brother and Nathaniel's first with my family; and first new year celebrations with all everyone. One thing Nathaniel said repeatedly was; 'I see where you get it from now' so the thing that was most obvious to me this week, is that as a family, although we couldn't be further apart in distance, we couldn't be closer in likeness. Then we came to 'Goodbye' which I will never ever be any good at and don't ever seem to get any easier but, it is the way that it is and I am grateful that this distance has allowed us to become closer and introduce us all to this amazing place. Here is our week in photos...
