'ONE SHOULD EITHER BE A WORK OF ART, OR WEAR A WORK OF ART'

I've fallen in love with H&M. Every time I go in there I find a ton of things I love. This long-line shirt was one of them. You can style it in so many ways, here, I wore it with black jeans and these ASOS heeled sandals. I also wore it with black shorts so, it was more like a dress and my beloved Reebok Classics. I turned down the collar because the normal collar thing looks awful on me. These photos were taken at Plym Bridge about 2 weeks ago.

FINALLY, I found time to blog again! Life got a little crazy with uni hand in's and moving house etc. but, finally here I am with nothing to do, impatiently waiting to move house.

These photos by Alicia were actually taken last month! How beautiful is this setting?! I have a new found love of white trainers, I think they look so chic and make the perfect minimalist look. This day was so windy hence the crazy hair...

I've been reluctant to write about my anxiety through fear of it looking like I'm looking for attention or ending up being treated differently but after one friday night I think it's time. I think I was always an attention loving child, when I was 10, my brother bought me a top from Tammy that read 'I'm not attention seeker attention finds me' which says it all really but only from my family and friends. Last October, I recognised there was something a little strange about my thought process, I was scared of getting on the bus, walking downstairs - in case I fell over, meeting new people, going out with new friends. I constantly thought people were judging me and thought I was wearing the wrong thing or 'too dressed up for uni'. I started getting panic attacks and I drank was too much to get over this wall that social anxiety made. So, I told someone, I got help which was daunting and every week I drove home from my group 'therapy' sessions in tears because I was facing something hard and realising I was someone I didn't actually want to be. Then I decided to be that person. I signed up for a course in photoshop and one in dress making. I didn't force myself to do it, I think that can back fire, I wanted to do it. I wanted to be happy and confident and so far, I think I'm doing pretty well. I woke up and told myself I could be whoever I wanted and that maybe it wouldn't be as bad as I thought and brought myself back down to earth. And finally, I'm almost there. I still trip myself up sometimes and have times when I think I'm not okay but I am.

The world can be a cruel place, if you let it. There's a high level of sass in my personality; I don't let people piss me off because I know how I want to be treated. A massive part of my anxiety is being scared of people and they're reactions, particularly men (sorry boys). Don't ask why, I don't know but I just remember there being a pivotal point when I wasn't going to let boys touch my bum in a club and I didn't. I like to think I have this look that I shoot at them and they know they've gone too far.

Which brings me to last friday night, me and one of my best friends decided that if no one was going to go make the first move to the dance floor then we would. I didn't feel like people were watching but I knew they were and I didn't care and it wasn't the alcohol, I actually didn't care. That's what inspired me to write this, I'm amazed at how far I've come (excuse the cliche), I wasted so much of my time thinking 'it was just me' but its not, you can do and be anything you want. What other people think doesn't ever matter if you're doing something that you're happy doing. Social Anxiety was part of me growing up and deciding on the kind of person I want to become, it's not a bad thing or an evil thing, it's a part of me and I wanted to do this to show anyone who feels the same (one more cliche) that if I can do it anyone can.

Following the hand in this morning, there are a couple of things I would like to have done a little differently. I would have liked to have known my question to before going to Paris Fashion Week. This would have allowed me to talk to any Peacocks and observe them in detail. It would also have been beneficial to attend London Fashion Week 2015, from information gathered from the interviews, there is more emphasis on the 'outside' event, networking and Peacocking. Finally, on the topic of research, I would have liked to carry out a second round of questionnaires based on the results and outcomes of the first round. This would be possible if there was more time to conduct the case study as I could have attended Paris and London Fashion Weeks in September 2015.

However, this is still a piece of work I am proud of. I'm proud of sticking with my initial thoughts after I doubted them and finding quotes to support them. I was surprised at the amount of quotes I found and the ease of finding them, one I knew what I was looking for. I discovered that I enjoy researching and writing about social elements of society such as social roles and subcultures. Knowing this will help me in finalising a dissertation proposal for next month.

The librarian, Rosie Sellwood mentioned in my tutorial that I could be one of the first people to write about Peacocking as a theory. With this knowledge I want to work on this study further to make it as good as it can be with the motive to get it published.

During the process of this study, I have noticed changes in myself. Six months ago I never would have imagined going to Paris alone and asking people I had never met to help me with my study. Now I wouldn't think twice about doing it again. I think this is partially down to growing up with Falmouth being my environment but I feel like going to Paris gave me the push out of my comfort zone I needed to feel comfortable with myself.

After a meeting with Rosie Sellwood in the library last Wednesday my points in my discussion were made clear. Talking through my points for my discussion with someone else made them so much clearer and understandable in my head, I was starting to think they didn't make any sense, or at least only to me. My problem was that I had my points about peacocking and networking but I couldn't find any academic references to back my points up. Rosie suggested that I use a similar scenario in different discipline. In terms of pea cocking, I am going to compare that scenario to that of subcultures and the transition of certain groups such as Punk and Goth into mainstream society. Within this point, I can predict that as with subcultures, peacocking behaviour will become part of fashion events. Rosie also sent in the right direction when searching terms in the library. I had exhausted all versions of 'peacocking, fashion, paris fashion week and identity'. And I accquired 15 books to look for across Tremough and Woodlane libraries.

One theory that I'm particularly interested in, in terms of fashion is subcultures and their relation to peacocking. One particular useful quote I have found is, 'clothing is used to affirm membership to social groups and personal identity' [Barnard, 2002].

In many ways I'm glad our event and two thirds of 250 are over so I don't have to worry about it and can concentrate on 240.

I've wanted a white suit for so long so, when I saw this linen one in the sale on +ASOS I fell in love. I think it would look so fierce with a white shirt and white trainers.

I have been out the swing of blogging for a couple of weeks for many reasons. BUT what better way to get back into it than to write about a meet up at +RumpusCosy! This was my first blogger event and it was so good to meet other women doing the same thing as me. It definitely inspired me to keep going and get out of this rut of not blogging.

I love Rumpus Cosy, not only is the whole cafe what I want my house to look like but their profits go to the charity, Effervescent and the tea and cake is amazing!

Ellie, the organiser (check her blog out; http://www.littleelliemae.co.uk ) managed to put together the cutest goody bags of products from companies around the UK, including Virtue Ice Tea (http://www.virtuedrinks.com) which taste amazing and Sweet Cecily's (http://www.sweetcecilys.com).
